Wasteland made it through to the next round of Lincolnshire Battle of the Bands 2013
Crash Doubt is proud to be partnering up with the Lincoln Music Collective to sponsor this year’s Lincolnshire Battle of the Bands. The heats, which take place at The Scene, Lincoln see three to five bands compete for the top prize which includes a 12-month PR contract and an opening slot at Crash Doubt Fest 3.
As we move into the second round of heats we took some time to chat to a few of the bands talented enough to have won their heats…
Crash Doubt: Tell us a little bit about yourselves, how did you form?
Wasteland: The band was formed by Josh and Matt back in 2010. Starting out by playing as many gigs as possible in our hometown, Nottingham to try and get the name out there.
CD: How did your battle of the bands heat go?
W: Our first heat at the battle of the bands went amazing and was great to see such a positive response from the crowd as well as being delighted to win the heat and thrilled with the amount of points we received.
CD: How has 2013 been for you? What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?
W: 2013 has seen a lot of changes for the band after parting ways with our original drummer and also welcoming in our new vocalist, Jordan who brings a brand new style to Wasteland which has enabled us to move in a more heavy direction than before. Another highlight has been playing at Rock City in Nottingham opening for the German metal band, We Butter The Bread With Butter. Although our main struggle this year has been obtaining more gigs but hopefully that will be set to change next year with the release of our upcoming 2nd EP which we are set to begin recording within the next couple of weeks. We also have a tour to accompany the release being planned as we speak which we are all very excited about as it will give us the opportunity to engage a new audience and hopefully welcome on board new fans.
CD: What album influenced your band the most over the past year?
W: Although we all have a varied taste of different bands, a few albums have stood out for us and influenced the new EP in a big way. Those being: In Waves by Trivium, The Connection by Papa Roach and Atlas by Parkway Drive.
Thanks Wasteland, there are still four spaces left for the next round of the competition. The next heat is Saturday 23rd September at The Scene, Lincoln featuring: Blood Drive, Borders, Striped Sight and Universal Law. You can find out more info here.
